One lucky collector walked away from the Prop Store Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction with an original Stormtrooper helmet after a world record sale of £78,000 ($120,000).
Avid collectors from galaxies far far away assembled at the BFI IMAX cinema in London for over eight hours of keen bidding, with the day’s biggest result being the rare Stormtrooper helmet from 1980’s Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
Founder and CEO of film memorabilia company Prop Store Stephen Lane said:
The collection auctioned yesterday was phenomenal, and we’re thrilled to see these pieces of history head to new loving homes.”
Other noteworthy sales from the day’s proceedings included The Witch King’s Dagger from The Lord of the Rings which sold for £36,000, Katsumoto’s Armour from The Last Samurai at £48,000 and Leeloo Dallas Multi Pass from The Fifth Element which sold for £42,000.
The auction was such a success for Prop Store that plans are being made for next year Lane said.
A documentary has also been made on the Prop Store auction and collecting famous film memorabilia by the British Film Institute, the first part of which can be viewed here.
